Who needs an FSSAI License?
Every Food Business Operator (FBO) involved in the manufacturing, processing, storage, distribution, and sale of food products must compulsorily obtain FSSAI Registration or License.
What is the difference between Registration and License?
Registration is for petty food businesses with turnover up to ₹12 Lakhs. State License is for turnover between ₹12 Lakhs to ₹20 Crores. Central License is for turnover above ₹20 Crores or for importers/exporters.
What is the validity of FSSAI License?
An FSSAI license can be issued for a validity period of 1 to 5 years, as chosen by the food business operator. The fee increases with the number of years.
Is FSSAI License mandatory for home bakers?
Yes, even home-based food businesses like bakers, tiffin services, or homemade pickle sellers require FSSAI registration if they sell food for profit.
What documents are required for FSSAI Registration?
Basic documents include Photo of Food Business Operator, Identity Proof (Aadhaar/PAN), and Proof of Address of business premises (Rent agreement/Electricity bill).
What happens if I don't renew my license?
If not renewed before expiry, you may have to pay a penalty of ₹100 per day. If the license expires, you will have to apply for a fresh license.
